How to Make the Most of your AWC-SB Membership
As an AWC-SB member, you are part of a national organization that has been supporting women in communications for more than 100 years. Our Santa Barbara chapter includes nearly 70 local women who are exceptional communicators at different stages of their careers in a wide range of fields. Here are some suggestions about how to get the most from your membership.
Attend monthly meetings. Always free for members, meetings are typically on the first Wednesday of the month from 5:30-7 p.m.
Learn about upcoming events, or suggest a speaker or meeting topic at AWCSB.org.
Check out national webinars. Members attend free and also have access to an extensive archive of past webinars on a wide variety of topics of interest to communicators. Members are also encouraged to present webinars. You’ll reach a national audience and have a great portfolio piece.
Connect on social media. We use social media to celebrate the accomplishments of our members. You’ll find us on:
- Facebook – Join the AWCSB Group where members interact and share good news. Follow our AWC-SB Facebook Page which features chapter news and announcements.
- Instagram @AWCSantaBarbara
- Twitter @AWCSB
If you’re shy about self-promotion, members are invited to share news at any time by filling out a quick form on our website. Or tag AWC-SB in posts you’d like us to repost. Or send us a link so we can amplify your good news.
Download the AWC App. Available for both iPhone and Android, the app includes Member Profiles and is the quickest way to get contact information for chapter members. A quick tutorial explains how to install and use the app.
Find a job. The national job board lists jobs of interest to communicators. In addition to finding a new position—or a new employee—it’s a good way to stay on top of trends in our industry.
Win an award. The prestigious Clarion awards are given annually in a wide variety of categories. Entry fees are discounted for members.
Get discounts. AWC affinity programs offer members discounts on car rentals, legal services, office supplies, and even pet insurance!
Honor exceptional communicators. At our annual Women of Achievement Awards luncheon, we honor local women who have used their gifts as communicators to make a difference in our community. Members get a reduced price on tickets to the luncheon.
Develop your skills. Volunteering with AWC-SB is a great way to develop or showcase your skills in a supportive environment. We have opportunities in program development, social media, membership, and more! Let us know what you’d like to do, and we’ll help you do it!
