Join us for an evening with one of Santa Barbara’s most influential voices. As co-founder and Editor in Chief of the S.B. Independent, Partridge has spent nearly four decades shaping the community’s conversation through thoughtful reporting, insightful commentary, and an unwavering commitment to local journalism. Before moving to Santa Barbara in 1980, Partridge was Editor in Chief of the Village Voice and Senior Editor of Rolling Stone magazine, where she also served as bureau chief in New York and Los Angeles.
In conversation with Leslie Dinaberg, Arts & Culture Editor for the Independent, Partridge will share her experience as a pioneering woman journalist and a community leader, advocating for the arts, environmental stewardship, and community engagement. She will discuss the importance of local journalism and share her passion for preserving and celebrating Santa Barbara’s unique character, reflected in the stories she has helped tell and the many institutions she has supported throughout her career.

As co-founder and editor-in-chief of the Santa Barbara Independent, she has spent nearly four decades shaping the community’s conversation through thoughtful reporting, insightful commentary, and an unwavering commitment to local journalism. Before moving to Santa Barbara, Partridge built an accomplished editorial career in New York and Los Angeles, holding leadership roles at Rolling Stone, Look magazine, The Village Voice, and contributing to publications including The New York Times and Forbes.
Beyond publishing, Partridge has long been an advocate for the arts, environmental stewardship, and community engagement. A respected leader throughout Santa Barbara, she has served on numerous nonprofit and civic boards, championing organizations that enrich the cultural fabric of the Central Coast. Her passion for preserving and celebrating Santa Barbara’s unique character is reflected not only in the stories she has helped tell, but also in the many institutions she has supported throughout her career.
