Wednesday, June 8: Hello Summer Networking + Artful Happy Hour

Jumpstart your summer with an artful happy hour—an evening of lively conversation, wine, and snacks in the artful galleries of Sullivan Goss. This annual event is a special opportunity to hear what’s happening in Santa Barbara’s art scene and network with members at the same time. Contemporary curator Susan Bush will highlight up-and-coming women artists in the area and detail some not-to-be-missed art events this summer. Let us know if you’re an artist, and we’ll tag your id with an “ask me about my art” badge.

Susan Bush has been an art dealer at Sullivan Goss Gallery since 2005. In 2009, she was promoted to the curator of contemporary art for the gallery and, with support from her colleagues, handles the careers of the 15 living artists that the gallery represents. She curates more than ten solo and group shows per year, culminating in an annual group show called 100 Grand (100 works of art for $1,000 and under), now in its 13th year, that features more than 90 artists. Susan has also written essays for the many books the gallery has published as well as essays for exhibition catalogs.

A life-long Santa Barbaran, Susan graduated from UCSB with a bachelor’s degree in art history. European travel is a staple for both pleasure and for her expanding knowledge of international art. Prior to being an art dealer, Susan was a graphic designer for a sportswear company. The visual arts have always been, and will continue to be, an important part of her life.

Susan is a member of the Westmont Arts Council of Westmont College in Montecito.  She has also given lectures about the history of women artists in Santa Barbara at the Little Town Club and for a few other private groups. She has sat on many discussion panels and has juried numerous art shows in Santa Barbara.
