November President’s Message

“Let us be grateful to the people who make us happy; they are the charming gardeners who make our souls blossom.” ― Marcel Proust

Like most of us, I am thinking about gratitude this week and how appreciative I am to be part of the Santa Barbara Chapter of the Association for Women in Communications. I have discovered that AWC-SB, in so many ways, does make souls blossom. It has for me. Because of our group I have deepened important relationships with many women friends and made some incredible new friends as well. My life has been enriched by the diverse and talented group of (mostly) women who come together to share their interest in the rapidly changing world of communications.

I have grown professionally and personally by participating in a vibrant community of women who share my values. As women we care about making our community a better place for all; as members of AWC-SB we understand the tremendous role communications plays in making that happen.

We are a community that wants to understand the unanticipated synergies possible when people make connections across diverse industries. In those cross-connections change occurs. I see this happen at every one of our program meetings.

Because we fundamentally love the word in all its forms, we also yearn to learn. It has been stimulating to learn with, and from, other women in communications about blogging, co-authoring and magazine publishing over the last few months.

I hope you will join us on December 5 for our Annual Holiday Party at Carr Winery. This event will be a wonderful opportunity to celebrate with members and guests, and to make a gratitude gift to an important organization in our community.

Join as we honor our Member of the Year Nancy Marriott and our Nonprofit of the Year Domestic Violence Solutions. We are asking attendees to bring a gift of an easy-to-use weekly or monthly appointment calendar, day planner, journal and/or a pen and pencil set for a client of Domestic Violence Solutions.

You can register online. Tickets are $15 for members, $30 for nonmembers, and $15 for students.

Appreciatively,

Lynn
