AWC-SB & Antioch University Form Local Partnership

Antioch University Santa Barbara has entered into a partnership with AWC-SB to host the association’s educational programs, providing an opportunity for expanded outreach by both organizations.

To celebrate the partnership AWC-SB Membership Director Rachil Willig coordinated a reception for new AWC-SB members on the rooftop at Antioch on August 28. Thank you to themistressofspice.com for providing the food and Mandana for the cookies. The Marquee donated the wine. Photos of the event are courtesy of r.s.thurston photography.

Association members and nonmembers are invited to return to the campus for a networking/educational event, To Blog or Not to Blog? That is the Question, from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Sept. 12. A panel of experts will discuss how turn blogging into a paid assignment, use it as an effective business marketing tool, and leverage it to create related projects such as books and talk shows.

“Antioch University Santa Barbara is excited about this new partnership,” said Dr. Nancy Leffert, president of the local campus. “It is consistent with our mission. We are committed to efforts to support women leaders and emerging leaders in all fields. We look forward to providing a home for AWC-SB on our new campus.”

“We are thrilled to have a home at Antioch,” said Dr. Lynn K. Jones, AWC-SB president. “The partnership will allow us to enhance our program offerings in the high-velocity field of communications to the Santa Barbara community.”

In a related announcement, Jones said the September program will be the first in a series of Certificate Courses offered by AWC-SB. Members who attend all designated courses will receive a Communications Certificate denoting successful course completion at the association’s annual Women of Achievement awards luncheon in June. Themes for the certificate program for the fall and winter quarters are: Written Word: Blogging, Local Magazines, National Publications and Business of Communications: Fee Setting, Negotiations, Contracts and Intellectual Property.

Along with the new meeting venue there is a new AWC-SB program fee policy: programs are now free for AWC-SB members. Nonmembers are welcome at all programs. Tickets may be purchased in advance.
